We are looking for a creative retail assistant who is not only enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the topics we specialize in but also energetic, savvy, and dependable. The ideal candidate will be passionate about books and have experience in a retail or bookstore setting. You will be responsible for directly assisting the manager with receiving products, managing inventory, stocking shelves, cleaning, and other tasks.
This position is part-time (25-30 hours/weekly) Wed/Thur/Fri/Sat
About Crazy Wisdom
Since l982, Crazy Wisdom Bookstore has served as a center of information in holistic health and integrative medicine, body-mind therapies and psychology, Buddhism and meditation, spiritual traditions and practices, sustainability, conscious living, and consciousness. After being on sabbatical since early 2022, Crazy Wisdom Bookstore is ready to re-emerge, under its same longtime ownership, in the fall of 2023. There will be a smaller and more focused bookshop located on a portion of the first floor as well as a community events space located on the second floor. The re-imagined Crazy Wisdom will have significantly reduced hours of operation—still, a destination for its regional customer base—but only open 30 hours a week, spread out over just four days each week.
Applicants must have at least 3-5 years of retail experience; Bookstore or related experience preferred. The retail assistant will play a very important role in the reopening and ongoing business of Crazy Wisdom and candidates should be willing to commit to the position for a minimum of 2 years. Responsibilities include planning and executing tasks, problem solving, cash handling, providing excellent customer service and assisting the manager in a variety of ways as necessary. The retail assistant will establish professional relationships with the manager and team, exhibit personal integrity, and inspire others to do the same. Excellent communication and organizational skills, basic computer skills, understanding of the importance of customer service, reading comprehension skills, and the ability to stand during scheduled shifts are required. Applicants must also be able to maneuver up to 25 lbs., regularly, bend, stoop, reach, climb ladders and step stools while placing merchandise throughout the store and assisting customers, and operate the POS system/cash register as needed.
